My Never Ending Quest for Volume

Check out these pics I recently took. My hair looks so thin and lifeless! Since my locks have matured, they have really condensed quite a bit. While the added length is nice, the downside is that my hair hangs straight w/ very little volume after retightening. I must find some hair styles that play up the volume of my hair (I have a big head after all :). This always happens after retightening. I've tried braid outs, roller sets, bantu knots, everything. We are going to Jamaica in a few weeks I need some urgent styling tips...help!

Shout out to the DH for allowing me to share these. I had to sneak him in somehow :)

katika,

you should check creyole's blog for her one of her recent posts about how to get deep waves. that might give you some volume that you are looking for. unfortunately because of the length of your hair, most styles like bantu knots or roller sets will require a lot of drying time. also, try making the knots about half the size next time. smaller knots will dry faster and you will probably need a tighter knot if you want more curls than waves (the weight from the length of your hair will tend to make the curls relax faster than shorter locs). soft spikes are another option too! hope that helps!

peace!

Your hair doesn't look lifeless by any means.

You and your DH are so cute together. I like the film-clip motif too. :)

Have fun in Jamaica!

Awwww, y'all are so cute!!

I have had excellent results with bantu knots. Like naadi said, smaller is better if you want more curls and volume :)

Lovely pics. I like the way your hair looks now. Isn't it amazing how often we want what we don't have at the moment?

Some days I feel like I can't wait until my hair has more length and density. Right now it feels too light and fluffy, but I suspect when that happens, there will be things I miss about this stage.

That's why I'm so glad to have posts from bloggers who are so much farther along in the process. I feel like it helps me know what's normal.

You two are too cute! Love the love (-:

Your hair doesn't look limp or lifeless to me but I know that you have to be happy with it. I love a bantu knot set. In fact that is how Dr. C achieves her curly look and it seems to really hold. Definitely try the smaller know knots.

Have fun in Jam-Rock!

Beautiful pics! Thanks for introducing DH. I'm with you on the lifeless hair, now that my locks have condensed and dropped. No volumne whatsover. I did try this mousse that gave my hair a little volume and helped the curls to stay. I'll blog about it as soon as I get a chance. In the meantime, enjoy Jamica mahn!

I think your hair is gorgeous but I'm partial to the freestyle look. And I don't think your hair lacks volume.

Enjoy Jamaica!!!!

Oh, yeah, when I do braidouts and roll the ends, I get some volume. Just a thought.
